Learn to ride a Bike

Let Us Help

What age should they learn?

Most kids are ready to start learning to ride a bike between the ages of 4 and 7. But every child is different — some may show confidence earlier, others might need more time. The key signs of readiness are good balance, focus, and a desire to try. At Get Pedal Ready!, we welcome riders aged 4 to 16, adapting our approach to suit every age and ability.

Balance bikes vs stabilisers

Stabilisers (training wheels) can actually delay a child’s balance development. Balance bikes, on the other hand, teach children to glide, steer, and stop safely — all before pedalling. That’s why we start with balance skills first, whether your child is on a balance bike or a pedal bike with the pedals temporarily removed.

Common mistakes

Teaching your own child can be tricky. Some common mistakes include:

  • Holding onto the saddle (it throws their balance off)

  • Using stabilisers too long

  • Skipping balance practice

  • Using a bike that’s too big or heavy

We’ve seen it all — that’s why our method is built to avoid these pitfalls.
